Why a truck brake job is not the same as a car
Pickups and SUVs that tow trailers or haul loads put far more stress on brakes than a sedan commuting to work. The rotors are thicker, the pads contain more friction material, and the calipers clamp harder. When parts wear out, they need to be replaced with components rated for that weight, not economy pads from the parts-store shelf.
South Dakota winters add another layer of difficulty. Road salt and wet slush work their way into every bolt and slide pin. By spring, hardware that should move freely is rusted in place. Cheap brake shops skip the penetrating oil and snap bolts. We carry extraction kits, new caliper bracket bolts, and replacement hardware so a frozen fastener does not turn into a two-day ordeal.
Older domestic trucks often have rear drum brakes that require a different skill set than disc brakes. Springs, adjusters, and wheel cylinders all need attention. We stock drum brake kits and can resurface or replace drums that are scored or out of round. Your truck leaves stopping the way it did when it was new.
